The Heart of Frylands Wood
Frylands Wood would not be the same without its dedicated Service Crew – and it’s something we are incredibly proud of.
With over 75 active volunteers, our crew comes from all walks of life. Students, teachers, engineers, designers, plumbers, librarians, HR professionals – and many more – all giving their time to support the young people and groups who visit us each year.
They don’t just help run the site.
They are a vital part of what makes Frylands Wood special.
How You Can Get Involved
We’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join the team, particularly those interested in:
-
🎯 Activity Instructing
-
🛠 Equipment Maintenance
-
🌲 Site Projects & Woodland Work
-
🔨 Building & Developing New Activities
-
👷 Working Parties
-
🤝 Supporting Camps & Events
Whether you’re hands-on, practical, organised, or keen to develop instructor skills, there’s a role for you here.
Our Service Crew
Over the years, our Service Crew has developed a wealth of experience supporting and running large events. From traffic and parking management to maintaining facilities, instructing activities, and handling the unexpected – they take pride in going the extra mile for every group that visits.
Frylands Wood offers a wide range of activities, and our crew are trained to instruct across them. Many volunteers gain nationally recognised qualifications during their time with us, including:
-
Archery (GNAS)
-
Rifle Shooting (NSRA)
-
Climbing & other adventure activities
For many, these qualifications are earned right here at Frylands Wood.
More Than Volunteers – A Community
Our Service Crew aren’t just a team – they’re a family.
Yes, they work hard. But they also have a great time doing it. Many socialise outside of camp, lifelong friendships are formed, and some former crew members now have children who have joined the team themselves.
Volunteering here isn’t just about giving your time.
It’s about belonging.
