Learn Essential Outdoor Skill
Fire Lighting sessions at Frylands Wood usually take place in our purpose-built campfire circle, providing a safe and practical environment for participants to learn traditional outdoor skills.
Participants are introduced to a range of fire-lighting methods, including:
- Fire strikers
- Matches
- Vaseline and cotton wool techniques
The session focuses on building confidence, understanding fire safety and developing the skills needed to successfully light and maintain a fire outdoors.
Instructor-Led Sessions
When led by a Frylands Wood instructor, sessions are designed to give participants hands-on experience while learning safe and effective fire-lighting techniques.
Sessions typically include:
- Introduction to fire safety and preparation
- Demonstrations of different fire-lighting methods
- Opportunities to practise lighting fires independently
- Challenges focused on building and maintaining a successful fire
Our instructors ensure the activity is delivered safely and encourage participants to work together, problem-solve and build confidence throughout the session.
We ask group leaders to support by helping manage participant behaviour during the activity.
