Reach New Heights

Climbing sessions at Frylands Wood take place on our Mobile Climbing Tower, located on the Mizen behind the U18 toilet block.

This exciting activity helps participants build confidence, resilience and problem-solving skills while challenging themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

We use both sit harnesses and full-body harnesses to suit different ages and participant sizes. Further information about climbing equipment is available from the site office.

Instructor-Led Sessions

When led by a Frylands Wood instructor, sessions are designed to help participants gradually develop climbing skills and confidence.

Sessions typically include:

  • Introduction to climbing equipment and safety procedures
  • Basic climbing techniques and movement skills
  • Opportunities to practise and improve confidence
  • Fun climbing challenges and activities

Our instructors ensure sessions are delivered safely and encourage participants to challenge themselves at their own pace. We ask group leaders to support by helping manage participant behaviour throughout the session.

Self-Led Sessions

Groups may also run their own climbing sessions using appropriately qualified instructors.

Before your visit, groups must:

  • Provide copies of relevant permits or qualifications in advance (where required)
  • Read, understand and sign the relevant Conditions of Use documentation

During self-led sessions, group leaders and instructors are responsible for:

  • Ensuring the activity is supervised safely at all times
  • Managing participant behaviour throughout the session
  • Delivering the activity in line with safety requirements

Safety & Requirements

  • Minimum age: 5 years (participants must fit the harnesses safely)
  • Recommended age: 8+

Climbing is a fantastic activity for building confidence, perseverance and a sense of achievement.
